Painting for me allows a total sense of freedom. No limits, no restrictions, only those imposed upon by myself. My artwork is spontaneous, I don’t plan out what I am going to paint. I just let what ever will come out that day develop in an organic, authentic way. I am drawn to the color blue and always inspired by a walk on the beach. My focus is where the natural light settles, the intensity of the waves, the ripples in the sand, the reflection of the sun on the water. There is a push and pull between light and dark as well as opacity and transparency. Transparency is my love, layer upon layer of transparent colors create the depth. Experimenting with different mediums, materials and textiles fuel the creative process. Some pieces quickly feel complete and others need to develop over time. Patience is not my forte, but I am learning with art that it is imperative. The creative process cannot be forced, it must come naturally. I like working in this manner, because I never know what I will create on a given day and that excites me. Each viewer sees some thing different and I love the dialogue between what my intentions may have been and what there perception is. The difference of opinions open the dialogue of conversation.
When I am not painting, I am a designer and owner of Behind The Hedge Gallery in Connecticut.
